The fashion at Coachella has become just as important as the music. People around the world are eagerly anticipating the latest fashion trends to hit the festival grounds. However, as we continue to navigate the new normal, the festival fashion scene is undergoing a shift towards more casual outfits that prioritize comfort without sacrificing style… remember last year when Emma Chamberlain and Devon Lee Carlson showed up in sweats?!
You can tell that this year’s festival will be different than years past, just look at the setlist! To make sure you are prepared for the weekend to come, check out some of the outfits I wore in the past to get inspiration and see what trends I think will be popping up throughout the weekend!
When I started scrolling through Pinterest to find inspo for this year’s Coachella I was searching for “summer outfits 2023”, “cute and casual outfits”, and “90s celeb style” along MANY other searches. I like to start picking up on aspects of outfits that look new, different, and eccentric when it comes to planning for coachella outfits since you can really experiment with your style.
In this photo I compiled a few of my favorite outfits I found. I loved the idea of putting on fish net gloves, wearing a fun skirt with a simple top, or pairing a fun crochet top with colorful shorts! Once you can articulate what you like in a outfit it’s easier to put together an outfit since you know what you’re looking for.
A trend we will definitely see at Coachella is wearing a long boho skirt with a low hanging belt! I love this style and am trying to recreate it in my own way as well. It’s fun to wear a see-through skirt with some bikini bottoms to match the see-through mesh trends that have been so popular as well.
Denim will always be prevalent at Coachella. I am obsessed with cutting the sleeves off a denim jacket and creating a vest for this year’s spring season! I am going to see if I can include a denim vest in one of my outfits for Coachella even though last year I did something similar with a leather vest.
I like when men take the chance to wear something different for Coachella since it is such a fun place to wear a unique style! Here are some easy ways to stand out and elevate some pieces you probably already have in your closet. Wearing a simple outfit with some western accessories is an effortless way to fit the Coachella vibe without looking like you’re trying too hard.
Last year on the second day of Coachella, I wore this green, 70s inspired-floral print dress that was super cute and comfortable! I found the dress at a boutique in Nashville and then paired it with my platform converse. I also wore these big green sunglasses that worked great for keeping the dust out of my eyes. Over the dress I had on a gold belt chain that made the outfit trendier for festival style. You can see my Coachella sweatshirt wrapped around my waist because I bring that every day of the festival as it gets REALLY cold at night!
Something that I like to do when planning Coachella outfits is to pick a theme for each day of the festival. For the first day last year I wore this white dress and made it fit a sparkly ice princess theme lol. It makes the process so much fun as it’s almost like creating a costume for the vibe you’re going for.
I thrifted this dress in Arizona at My Sister’s Closet and then had my mom help me create the matching headband! This made for such a cute outfit since it was unique and something I pulled together rather than just picking the featured pieces from online retailers like Princess Polly.
This is the outfit I wore for the last day of Coachella in 2022. You want to plan an outfit that’s more casual and more comfortable than your other days because you will be exhausted by this point in the weekend. I found this amazing leather vest at a thrift store in Jerome, Arizona which is a very small western town. I paired it with some denim shorts, a silver bikini top (also thrifted), and a silver chain necklace.
As soon as the sun went down Lily and I threw on our sweatshirts and had so much more fun being comfortable at the concerts. One of the best parts of the third day was stumbling upon the rapper Dave and loving his set! He had a random guy, called Spike, pulled up on stage that started rapping with him and it was just hilarious because the crowd went wild. Then the next day when Lily and I were driving out of the desert we went to Cane’s and saw Spike there! It was so funny there were multiple people at Cane’s telling him he did a good job hahahah.
Here are the outfits I wore at my first Coachella back in 2019! It was such a fun time going with my sorority sisters! The first day I wore a plaid dress I found at Wasteland with some red sunglasses, the second day I wore a tan dress I found at Forever 21 (rip), and on the third day I wore a black tank top with a fun rhinestoned belt bag. At this Coachella we saw Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler which is so iconic since they were THE ‘it’ Coachella couple.
