Hi! I’m Brenna, a 24-year old working in Product Management in Santa Monica, California. I love fashion, technology, and learning new things, so creating this website was a fun way for me to combine all three.
You might be wondering, “Why create a website? Do we really need another blog?” Trust me, I shared the same thoughts.
My interest in creating a website started when I was 16. I remember researching ways to stand out in the fashion industry and found that blogs were a great tool to showcase a design portfolio and knowledge of the subject.
I didn’t revisit the idea until Covid was in full swing, and I was rejected from every corporate retail job I spent all of college prepping for. This led me to the consideration of working in tech.
In retrospect, this was a pretty naive thought since working in tech is highly competitive to break into, especially during a pandemic when jobs were scarce. Now, coupled with not having traditional experience in a comp sci major and being a woman in a male-dominated space, I felt like there were a lot of barriers in my way.
When I finally secured my first interview for a “Product” role, I was immediately asked if I had any coding experience. I earnestly replied, “I took a Beginner’s to HTML class”. The interviewer pursed their lips and tried to cut me some slack by following up with, “Well have you ever worked on a website?”
The answer was no.
And with that, I was put into a role that I wasn’t meant to be in and struggled to get out of.
Ever since this interaction the thing in my brain that always wants to prove people wrong was getting to me. I wanted to demonstrate that I was capable of succeeding in this field.
As a result, I bought my domain and started building the website from scratch. This endeavor not only presented a great challenge in learning new skills but also offered an opportunity to have a space to be creative. It became a way for me to rekindle my old curiosity and give the 16-year-old inside of me a platform to post the outfit photoshoots I had always been too embarrassed to share.
Alright, now you’re caught up! Didn’t think it took that long to get here, did you?
This website will constantly evolve, just like me. I continue to learn every day about how it all works, but in the spirit of Product Management (oh yeah, I ended up getting there too!) this is my MVP - Minimum Viable Product. I'm excited to take you on the journey with me and witness the ongoing iteration of the website I built.
